'With all ...'— A reflection on pornography addiction
The following verses from an anonymous author recently came in the mailbag to Morality in Media. We have no way of knowing whether these words are a poetic fiction or reflect the author's situation. Either way, we thought these words were worthy of your consideration.
With all the controversy over pornography
I feel I must add my two cents to the story
My husband returned his watch to K-Mart so he
could receive the cash he 'needed' to buy pornography
he did the same with a gift of a shirt
from his mother
clocked out of work early on Tuesday
that's when they have specials on hard-core teenage-girl movies
he attends twice-weekly SAA sessions
their purpose — to make his desire lessen
for lust and perversion and pornographic MTV
but once you have lifted the latch on Pandora's box
the demons have already sacrificed precious Hope
in exchange for Everyman's fantasy
so here his family sits — impoverished in
pocket, spirit, and mind
and still pornographers steal
love and leave lust behind.
Merry Christmas! the pornographers smile
as they drive their Mercedes to the bank
we've got ours — who cares who we defile
